Oguchi Onyewu US defender joins AC Milan

On this Tuesday (7th July, 2009) AC Milan club said that United States (US) defender Oguchi Onyewu had joins AC Milan club for a three year contract. Because to become the first American to join Serie A in more than ten years.

After outstanding performance in the United States' run to the Confederations Cup final, Milan acquired Onyewu from Standard Liege in Belgium. In the final US lost against Brazil by 3-2. About financial details for transfer were not disclosed. Onyewu also holds a Belgian passport & Match of the possibility that the European Union as a player will be registered. The last American to play in Serie A was Alexi Lalas,who was played for Padova from year 1994-96.

This Oguchi Onyewu, who is 27 year old helped Standard Liege win consecutive Belgian league titles.

As I noted yesterday, a number of foreign clubs, many in England, were interested in the hulking centerback, who played impressively during the Confederations Cup in South Africa.

This way operation proves once again the excellent friendship between AC Milan club and Standard Liege, and in particular, with vice president Luciano D'Onofrio.
