There is the first woman speaker in Lok Sabha in the history of the India. I mean to say is that there is the never any woman speaker is in the Lok Sabha from freedom. First time in Lok Sabha there is the woman speaker name as the Meira Kumar. Daughter of late Congress leader Jagjivan Ram is elected for the Speaker of the India at this time.
She held the Social Justice and Empowerment portfolio. Meira Kumar was appointed a Cabinet minister for a second time by Singh last week but resigned from the government on Sunday night after being chosen for Speakership.
Earlier, leaders cutting across the political spectrum, including Leader of Opposition L K Advani, Sharad Yadav , Mulayam Singh Yadav ,Mamata Banerjee , T R Baalu , Arjun Charan Sethi , Lalu Prasad , Ram Sundar Das , Farooq Abdullah , E Ahamed & Sharad Pawar tabled their motions proposing Kumar's name for the post. By Kumar the assumption of office, a former IFS officer and Union Minister, was hailed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh along with Advani and leaders of other parties, who hoped that she would ensure smooth functioning of the House.
For this Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and opposite side leader Lalkrishna Advani wishing her well for this Speaker ship of India's Lok Sabha.
